HYDERABAD, Oct 29: The district and sessions judge, Hyderabad, Hussain Bux Khoso, on Wednesday has issued notices to the DPO, Hyderabad; Taluka police officer, Latifabad, and other police officials after a woman applicant claimed that police were forcing her sons to divorce their wives.
Rabia Begum claimed in her application that the A-section police had taken her, her husband, her two sons and their newly-wedded wives on the next day of their Nikkah to the police station.
She has cited Sub-Inspector Investigation Javed Zai, Sub-Inspector Marwat and SHO of the A-section police station, Latifabad, and a private respondent, Imtiaz, as respondents in her application which contained allegations of harassment at the hands of the A-section police and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA on reserved seat, Farzana Saeed, and other MQM workers.
The applicant charged that a reign of terror had been unleashed against her family, including her husband, her two sons and their wives, by Farzana Saeed as her sons had refused to divorce their wives.
She told the court that on Oct 12 the Nikkah of her two sons was performed, and added that her sons, Nadeem and Waseem married Arzoo and Irum respectively, both daughters of one Mr Idrees.
She stated that the next day on Oct 13, a police party of the A-section police headed by SIP Marwat barged into her house along with Farzana Saeed and other MQM workers at the behest of private respondent, Imtiaz.
She said that police trespassed into her house, misbehaved with her family members and apprehended herself, her husband, both sons and their wives and took them to the A-section police station, Latifabad.
She alleged that under the directives of SIP Javed Zai, her sons were manhandled at the police station in order to force them to divorce their wives, failing which they would be booked for offences of Zina bil Jabar.
She said that her daughters-in-law were whisked away in a private car from the police station, and added that her sons were let off at 3am on condition that they would divorce their wives.
She said that the police, however, did not return the jewellry taken away by the police at the time of the raid.
She said that they were being called at the police station almost daily, adding that the last message was received from the TPO, Latifabad, asking her sons to appear before him regarding divorce.
The woman stated that she had been running from pillar to post for justice making appeals to the prime minister, governor, chief minister and the regional police officer but she and her family continued to live under threats of the influential people of the ruling party.
She prayed the court to direct respondent police officials not to harass her and her family.
She requested the court to direct the respondents that the complainant party should be directed to approach the family court, the police officials should return the jewellry and her family be provided protection.
