LAHORE, Oct 28: Five goals by Taimur Mawaz including a hat trick in the first chukker, guided En Vogue to an impressive 8-3 win against Diamond Paints in the Guard Rice polo tournament at LPC Ground on Tuesday.
The match started at a fast pace as six goals were scored in the first chukker with the winners scoring four — all through Taimur.
Taimur drew first blood scoring a field goal by a lofted shot and doubled the lead, minutes later, by scoring another field goal after a long chase. On the rampage, Taimur completed his hat trick by scoring the third goal with a lofted hit.
Paints showed their presence when Mir Shoaib Ahmad converted a 60-yard penalty hit to reduce the margin 3-1. But
Taimur struck again to score his fourth goal through a field attempt. However, Paints scored their second goal when Maula Bakhsh scored a field goal to narrow the margin 4-2 as the thrilling first chukker ended.
En vogue dominated the second chukker fully and added two more goals to gain a convincing 6-2 lead. Hassan Ali scored the field goal first followed by Samee Ibrahim of Karachi Polo Club, who banged home, converting a pass from Hassan. The third chukker was a low scoring one as Paints could only score their last goal of the match when Ali Hasnain struck to reduce the lead 6-3.
The fourth chukker saw En vogue again on the attack as they scored two more goals. First Taimur found the target and then Col. Talha Saeed slammem in a goal to make the tally.
Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana and Saqib Khakwani supervised the match.
