ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) will hold a march towards Supreme Court building on November 4 to protest against the detention of Asif Ali Zardari and the Legal Framework Order (LFO).

Talking to Dawn at the cafeteria of Parliament House after the opposition’s boycott on Tuesday, the ARD parliamentary secretary, Izhar Amrohvi, said the opposition members would stage a walkout from the National Assembly next Tuesday as usual and instead of holding a press conference at the cafeteria, they would march to the Supreme Court building.

Mr Amrohvi said the main purpose of arranging the protest march on Nov 4 was to mark the completion of seven years detention of Mr Zardari, who was arrested on Nov 6 after dismissal of second government of Benazir Bhutto. The ARD secretary said the opposition had already kicked off its mass contact campaign with a public meeting in Peshawar, and a comprehensive programme of public meetings in other cities would be announced soon. Similarly, protest marches would also be held in other parts of the country on Nov 4, he added.

He further said seminars would also be held in different cities to highlight political victimization of the opponents by the government.

The main event will be held in Islamabad in which eminent retired judges, lawyers, intellectuals and political leaders will participate, he added. Replying to a question, Mr Amrohvi said similar protests would continue throughout the holy month of Ramazan and soon after Eid the ARD would intensify its campaign against the government.
