TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 28: Additional District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Muhammad Rashid on Tuesday rejected Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Rafiq’s application in which he had sought dismissal of Ghayasuddin Janbaz’s election plea against him.
The tehsil Nazim had taken the plea that Mr Janbaz had filed a petition along with his co-petitioner Chaudhry Maqbool Madehpuri. Both had been defeated in contests for the tehsil Nazim and his deputy’s slots.
“As Chaudhry Maqbool has recently died, there is no provision in the Local Government Ordinance to continue hearing of this election petition because a single petitioner had no right to pursue such a petition,” he said.
Petitioner’s counsel Nafeesuddin Farooqi produced an amended copy of the ordinance, which suggested that Janbaz could pursue the petition.
The court rejected the tehsil Nazim’s plea and allowed Janbaz to file an amended petition after deleting the name of Maqbool. The court adjourned the hearing till Nov 8.
PTCL DAILY-WAGERS: Scores of daily-wagers of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited have urged Federal Telecommunication Minister Sardar Awais Leghari to order their confirmation.
They said an agreement was signed between the PTCL officials and the CBA union in 1996 in which hundreds of daily-wagers were regularized and the rest of them were to be confirmed in the second phase. But they were not being regularized even after eight to 10 years of service, they complained.
