GUJRANWALA, Dec 26: Assets of defunct divisional offices, including furniture, vehicles, computers, and other goods were distributed equally among the heads of district governments, district Nazims and Naib Nazims here on Wednesday.

At a meeting presided over by Gujranwala district Nazim Chaudhry Fiaz Ahmad Chattha, the assets were handed over to district Nazims and Naib Nazims concerned while the Nazims of big districts distributed the assets to Nazims of small district to resolve their problems.

Those attended the meeting included, the local government director-general, Hafizabad district Nazim Col Ali Ahmad (retired), Sialkot district Nazim Mian Muhammad Naeem, Mandi Bahauddin district Nazim Chaudhry Nazir and Narowal district Nazim Col Javed Safder (retired).

SURPLUS: An excise and taxation department has decided that officials, who were declared surplus, will be absorbed in the same department while the excise director has sent a summary to the district coordination officer.

The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Wednesday.

It is reported that an excise officer, three assistant excise officers, half a dozen inspectors and constables besides other low paid employees were declared as surplus some six months ago.

PROTESTED: Residents of union council No 40 strongly protested against an excise and taxation official for imposing property tax without any survey of their houses.

They demanded that the authorities concerned should withdraw the property tax till proper survey.

SUSPENDED: Two SHOs were suspended from service by the range police DIG on the charge of dereliction here on Wednesday.

Show cause notices were also issued to them.

Narowal SHO Lasser Kalan and Tetley SHO were found guilty of charges in an inquiry against them for not arresting killers of a constable and releasing one of them.

PO KILLED: A proclaimed offender was killed in an encounter with police in Alipur Chattha on Wednesday.

On a tip off, police raided the hideout of Muhammad Kashmiree and ordered him to surrender. But he opened fire, which was retaliated by police. In the crossfire, the PO was killed.

Police claimed that Kashmiree had killed two landlords some one month ago in Kot Bela. He was wanted in five cases of murder besides other heinous crimes.
