LAHORE, Oct 27: The City District Government has made a lucrative offer to the Punjab University against permission for linking the Allama Iqbal Town’s Karim Block Main Road to Maulana Shaukat Ali Road in Johar Town through its campus.

District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmud told newsmen on Monday that the CDG had offered the university to utilize one acre of prime commercial land to become available as a result of construction of the road in exchange for its consent for the construction of the much-needed link road.

The Punjab University Syndicate and Punjab University Academic Staff Association are opposing the link road construction.

The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency of the Lahore Development Authority has proposed construction of the two kilometre long link road at a cost of Rs50.56 million to reduce traffic pressure on the Khayaban-i-Jamia Punjab and awaits funds by the provincial government for the purpose.

The traffic between Maulana Shaukat Ali Road and Allama Iqbal Town’s Karim Block now covers five kilometre distance via Canal Bank Road, Khayaban-i-Jamia Punjab and Bhekhaywal Morr on Wahdat Road.
