KARACHI, Oct 26: Pakistan pugilist Mehrullah, who was the biggest hope for achieving top laurels for the country lost his bout to Nigerian rival Muideen Ganiyu in the Afro Asian Games on Sunday.

According to details made available here by the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF), Mehrullah in the light welter weight category put up a tough fight against his strong opponent, but his rival had the better of him due to his unique style and technique and defeated Mehrullah 12-9.

Another major blow for Pakistan was Nauman Karim’s ouster.

Karim lost to Paulus Natanga Ambunda from Namibia without putting up much of a resistance in the light fly weight category.

Paulus made Nauman Karim a punching bag throughout the bout. Nauman was just too weak for his speedy rival who took the bout 26-9.

Still there is a good news for the country as potential Asghar Ali Shah and Ahmed Ali the two remaining boxers from the country moved ahead in their categories after getting byes. — PPI
