KARACHI, Oct 26: The struggle by Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah would serve as a guideline to women who strive to work for the community, down-trodden women-folk and national development.

This was said by Sindh Minister for Women Development Dr. Saeeda Malik while addressing a programme on Saturday.

Acknowledging the services rendered by Fatima Jinnah along with Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Dr Saeeda Malik said Miss Fatima Jinnah contested Presidential elections against Field Marshal General Mohammed Ayub Khan to uphold the democratic traditions, otherwise she had no inclination towards holding important offices.

The minister urged the women councillors to follow the footsteps of Miss Fatima Jinnah and to render selfless services to the poor and needy women of their respective constituencies.

She also underlined the record increase in women representation at all levels of national life under the instructions of President General Pervez Musharraf and said that for the first time in country’s history, women get 33 per cent representation in the National Assembly.—APP
