PESHAWAR, Dec 26: District Nazim Azam Khan Afridi said at a meeting on Wednesday that the district Mushawarti (consultative) committee could play an effective role to ensure positive results of the integrated development programme.  

He called upon the Nazims of the four district towns and the councillors to understand the spirit of the development programme to ensure better facilities for the people.

Mr Afridi asked the elected representatives to submit their proposals to him in light of the aims and objectives of the consultative committee so that a development strategy could be evolved for Peshawarites.

The meeting, held at the Local Council Board, was attended by district Naib Nazim Dr Iqbal Khalil, town Nazims Haroon Bilour, Mumtaz Khan, Niaz Mohammad Khan, World Bank Consultant Zahid Khan and other officials concerned. The district Nazim took the chair.

smuggled goods seized: The anti-smuggling squads of the Peshawar Customs Collectorate seized smuggled goods worth over Rs2.6 million from different parts of the province, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.

Non-duty paid cloth, spare parts, used automobile engines, fresh fruit and black tea were seized from Nowshera, Peshawar, Laachi, and other parts of the province during the last fortnight. Fifteen cases had been registered under the Customs Act, the press release added.
