HYDERABAD, Oct 25: The Drainage Research Centre, Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources, in collaboration with the Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority conducted two workshops on problems of irrigation and drainage in Mirpurkhas and Ghotki last week.

A spokesman for Sida said the workshops were sponsored by the National Drainage Programme, Wapda. The workshops were attended by chairmen of Area Water Boards, farmers and irrigation and drainage experts.

Noted scholars presented their papers at the technical sessions of the workshops. The papers covered drainage, water management, soil fertility, salinity control and waste water treatment.

The scholars were drawn from reputed organizations, including the Hamdard University, Karachi, Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Drainage Research Centre, Tando Jam, and the Lower Indus Water Management Project, Wapda.

The participants complained about water shortage, particularly in tail-end areas, adulteration of pesticides and fertilizers and non-availability of agricultural inputs on time.
