LAHORE, Oct 25: District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood said here on Saturday the City District Government was examining feasibility of developing the Lahore Lake City, and arranging assessment of the ground water potential of the provincial metropolis.

Briefing a delegation of foreign investors, headed by Jack Y Tander, he said the proposed Lahore Lake City would spread over 160,000 acres and have a potential to generate Rs19.2 billion for the investors.

He said Water and Sanitation Agency had been engaged in the assessment of ground water potential. The Atomic Energy Commission will collaborate with it.

The underground water reservoir, he said, was enough to meet the requirements of the citizens of Lahore for at least next 45 years.

The Nazim said underground water was available here at a depth of 90 feet, but Wasa was pumping out water from 700 to 900 feet for drinking. At present, an average of 450 million gallon water was being utilized in the provincial metropolis.

The agency had been pumping 300 million gallons while the remaining was being pumped out by the Lahore Cantonment Board and the Defence Housing Authority, he said.

Mr Tander showed interest in a plan for the treatment of 250 million gallon water for power generation and recycling. He said energy could also be generated by composting 3,960 tons of solid waste being generated in the provincial metropolis daily.
