KARACHI, Oct 25: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board General Employees Union has criticized the management for not accepting the workers who have been reinstated by the court.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, the union leaders said that though the Supreme Court had ordered to reinstate these employees, the management was not accepting them.

Giving a brief resume of the issue, they said that over 1,100 workers were sacked in 1998 by the water board management. The then chief minister, however, with in a few weeks had ordered that these workers be reinstated.

The chief minister’s order was not followed by the water board at that time so the workers moved the High Court which gave decision in their favour. The water board did not accept the decision so the matter went to the Supreme Court, which also decided in the favour of workers.

The union leaders said that after the decision of Supreme Court, the Nazim ordered that these workers should be reinstated, but the management was not following his orders. They demanded that all these employees should be taken back into the water board as per order of the court.

They also criticized other trade unions which, they claimed, were opposing the re- entry of these employees.

Union leaders Khalid Khan, Mr Jokhio, Aman Badshah, Sohail Memon, and others also spoke.
