Girl turns boy after sex-change operation in Kohat

KOHAT: A 20-year-old girl went through a sex-change operation in Kohat city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday, DawnNews reported.

The girl was operated at a local hospital under the supervision of surgeon Dr Shahzad and after the successful transition got engaged to a childhood friend.

Dr Shahzad has reportedly conducted four such surgeries in the past, turning women into men.

Earlier this year, a family living in Chakwal district of Punjab had their girls turned into boys after a sex-change operation.

The parents remained confused about their gender as their sexual organs were not explicit. After months of inquiries and visits to doctors, Dr Masroor Malik at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) in Rawalpindi declared them boys.

After getting confirmation from the BBH, Qadeer had moved an application with the local union council office for changing the names and gender of his siblings. The local administration referred the matter to the District Headquarters Hospital Chakwal where a medical board also declared the siblings as male.

Back in 2013, A married woman Nagina Akram of Toba Tek Singh went through a similar surgery and started running a tyre shop on a bus stand.

The article is light on details of how and why and the psychological/physical state of these individuals. Anyone making such a drastic life change does it for more than just the reasons given in the article. Also, what are the religious positions on this?

just to be clear...the surgeon didnot turn an actual female into a boy ...google this medical condition "Ambiguous genitalia" ...in which both the ovaries and the testis are present in the child ut in much less quantities...after extensive tests it has to e decided which of the organs have a better chance of survival and Corrective surgery is performed to remove the organs which havnt developed properly....this is a birth defect not like all of a sudden somebody decided to become a boy..

@Ramz may be the reason is you.. If you have a body opposite to your gender then it is permissible to change accordingly and you science have advanced enough to do this safely. Perhaps why don't you imagine living in a body that is opposite to your gender. It happens its natural and theres nothing to he ashamed of.

@Umer as far as I know its permissible. Doing this is not creating a third gender, its just being in a right body. I think people like them are not accepted by the society (in Pakistan) and are often cast way as inferior humans. This further cause them to not get any jobs, face issues in schools thus they psychological scared and often end up doing drugs, prostitution, and other vile deeds. So weighing on this if surgery can help to better the living standard why not do it live as a person who you are supposed to be.

If you are a female born in female body then it is not permissible to change your body for a different gender; however, if your characteristics and body organs are different and has an anomaly then you are allowed to do it. Islam requires us to accept such people with open heart however we don't and it affects their mental, and physical health. Its best no to judge and see a bigger picture. What would you do if you were in her place. Will your family accept you ? Will you have friends? Will you get jobs ? Will you go to school peacefully without being mentally or physically abused ? Etc...
