NEW DELHI, Oct 24: Indian one-day specialist Ajay Jadeja, serving a five-year ban for his alleged nexus with bookmakers, was on Friday named in Delhi’s team for a major national cricket tournament.

The local selectors also included Test batsmen Virender Sehwag and Akash Chopra in the 15-member squad for this season’s Ranji Trophy tournament.

Jadeja, 32 was suspended from official cricket in December 2000 by the Indian board after being named in a match-fixing probe by federal investigators.

The Delhi High Court in May allowed Jadeja to play domestic matches after the cricketer had challenged the ban.

The middle-order batsman, who made 5,359 runs with six centuries in 196 one-dayers, was one of the four cricketers suspended by the board following the match-fixing investigation.

Former captain Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Sharma were banned for life, while all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar was suspended for five years.

Jadeja also figured in 15 Tests, scoring 576 runs. His last international match was in the Asia Cup against Pakistan in Bangladesh in June 2000.—AFP
