Three get death for double murder

GUJRANWALA, Oct 22: An additional district and sessions judge handed down death sentence and Rs300,000 fine to three convicts in a double murder case of Wazirabad, on Wednesday.

In case of non-payment of fine, they will have to undergo two-and-a-half-year rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Nasrullah, Muhammad Iqbal and Safdar Husain killed two of their rivals, Dost Muhammad and Muhammad Irshad, in Wazirabad on March 12, 2002.

Two other accused in this case, Qaisar Baig and Ijaz Ahmad, have already been declared proclaimed offenders by court.

The judge, Muhammad Ikram, also ordered that Rs200,000 each would be paid to the heirs of the deceased as compensation.

ACQUITTAL: A local court acquitted three policemen, including a sub-inspector, of murder following payment of diyat to the heirs, on Wednesday.

According to the prosecution, Shabbir Ahmad, a resident of Kamoki, was going somewhere by his motorcycle when SI Riaz and constables, Tariq and Shahbaz Ahmad, opened fire on him when he could not stop his two-wheeler at a picket. He died on the spot.

The judge, Riazul Hassan, acquitted the policemen after they paid Rs290,000 to the heirs of the deceased.

SUSPENDED: City Tehsil Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad on Wednesday suspended three officials of the tehsil council from service for being absent from duty. They were also issued show cause notices. Reports said the Nazim visited the Sheranwala Bagh on the GT Road where he found both the guards, Rehmat Ali and Muhammad Siddiq, absent.

A city tehsil council clerk, Muhammad Riaz, was also found absent by the Nazim.
