RAWALPINDI, Oct 21: The government should do more legislation for solving the problems faced by special persons throughout the country, Member National Assembly Mian Mohammad Aslam said here on Tuesday.

He was speaking in a programme arranged in connection with International White Cane Safety Day, at the FG Sir Syed College for Boys, The Mall. The event was organized by the local chapter of Pakistan Association of the Blind (PAB).

Mr Aslam said he would take up the issues of the special persons in the next NA session. The government has never been short of funds, therefore, it should evolve both short and long- term planing for improving the socio-economic status of physically challenged people, he said.

Majority of the citizens, he said, were not even aware of what a white cane symbolized. Electronic and print media should create awareness among the masses about their duties towards special people. It is the duty of every individual to help special persons become useful members of the society, he said.

Mr Aslam also distributed white canes among 108 PAB lifetime members.
