KARACHI, Oct 21: Delay in release of 93 Pakistani fishermen imprisoned in India is causing concern among fishermen communities here.

As a goodwill gesture, the Pakistan government had already released 269 Indian fishermen last month, bringing the number of released fishermen to 549 so far.

The release of remaining 74 detained Indian fishermen along with their 23 boats was expected to be followed by the repatriation of 93 detained Pakistani fishermen, whose release had been ordered by the Indian government.

On Sept 22, a five-member Pakistani delegation had left for Indian to take the custody of 93 detained Pakistani fishermen, who could not be released so far.

The situation has become a source of concern for the families of detained Pakistani fishermen, who expected that their bread winners would be released before the advent of Ramazan.

The families of the Indian fishermen, detained in Pakistan, have urged the Pakistani government to release them so that they could join the “dewali” festivities in their country.
