PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday approved Rs507 million for 12 projects to be launched in different technical educational institutions in the province.

It also approved Rs85.96 million for the establishment of the Technical and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) Secretariat in Peshawar.

The approval was given by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak during the second meeting of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tevta board of directors at the CM Secretariat here.

According to a statement issued here, the CM ordered the formation of Institution Management Committees for all 67 technical and vocational training institutes of the province.

He also assured to withdraw recent amendment in the Universities Act that waived off requirement or condition of production of domicile for admission to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa universities.

Similarly, the CM said establishment of new technical education universities would be considered only on need basis instead of mere political recommendations and that the relevant authorities should review prospects for the establishment of an engineering and technology university in Malakand division.

Besides, the participants also considered repair of the training machinery and equipment, the second shift arrangements, rules and regulations of Tevta, recruitment of instructors for Tevta institutions and handing over of remaining three institutes to Pakistan Air Force for training purposes and took important decisions to further empower the newly-created authority for arranging and imparting quality technical education to youths of the province in an independent manner.

The board also approved recruitment of 180 technical education instructors as well as refurbishing of the training aids including heavy machinery and equipment.

The CM ordered completion of the hiring of teachers and repair of machinery within two months.

He said Tevta should accomplish its prime responsibility for imparting the latest technical education and skills in the trades required by international job market and that the government was even ready to pay for expensive internationally recognised certification for the purpose in larger interest of the youths of the province.

Khattak said measures should be taken to ensure bright careers for youths of the province and that those from poor and downtrodden segments of society should be given top priority.

He asked Tevta to ensure conversion of all technical and vocational educational institution into model institutions and provide equal standard and facilities there.

The CM said it was ridiculous that evening shift in government technical educational institutions was being conducted from 11am to 2pm.

He ordered the start of second shift from 2pm to 6pm and asked Tevta to arrange separate teachers for the shift.

The CM also ordered the early handing over of the remaining three technical and vocational training institutes to Pakistan Air Force for management and educational purposes.
