HYDERABAD: Joint teams of police and Rangers personnel on Tuesday paid surprise visits to four seminaries in different parts of Hyderabad and carried out search operations in line with the National Action Plan to curb terrorism, religious extremism and sectarianism.

According to a press statement issued by the Hyderabad district police, the search operations were conducted in Madressah Miftahul Uloom at Anaj Mandi, Madressah Shamsul Uloom at Naya Pul, Subzi Mandi, Madressah Quwwatul Islam at Gharibabad and Madressah Abdullah Bin Masood at Hala Naka.

“Some documents were seized during the search,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the joint teams also rounded up more than 50 suspects, most of them Afghan nationals, in a crackdown on the illegal immigrants suspected to be involved in criminal activities.

The crackdown was launched on a Sindh government directive issued in view of security concerns, Hyderabad SSP Irfan Baloch said on Tuesday. He said that most of the suspects were picked up in the Amani Shah Colony and Hali Road areas, where search operations for arms and ammunition were also carried out.
