LAHORE, Oct 18: Three-year-old bay colt Ponchi, with an impressive victory and a close second on the trot looks a good proposition in the Saif Group Cup to be run over 1400m when the 6th Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday.
He is contesting in the class IV division I and II combined handicap race in which there are 13 contenders.
This son of Polinesso out-of-Affifa, Ponchi had won a race very convincingly in class five on Sep 21 last and was beaten by an imported English filly, Kowalska in class IV division I and II combined over 1400m on Oct 6 last.
Ponchi should make amends this time and win the Saif Group Cup. His stablemate Tora Bora, Royal Soul and Kargil Tiger should fight for the less remunerative positions.
This will be the sixth race of the day with the largest field of 13 runners barring last-minute withdrawals.
A ticklish card of seven events has been laid out for the afternoon programme starting at 12.30pm.
In the supporting and fifth event, Raiwind Plate class V division I and II to be run over the sprinting distance of 1000m there are eleven contestants.
Of them three come into reckoning. They are Minnie Me, Puma King and Flame. They should fight it out in the same order.
Speed Gun, Royal Harban and Sugar And Honey are prominent entries for the Pattoki Plate, a class VII division I to be contested over 1000m.
On recent form Speed Gun should have the better of Sugar And Honey and Royal Harban.
Meanwhile all the trainers have been directed by the Lahore Race Club (LRC) authorities to submit the lists of their syces to the secretary by Sunday.
A notification issued by the club warned that action would be taken against those who failed to comply with the order.
Syces of such trainers will not be provided uniforms being given by the club. Such trainers will have to provide uniforms to their syces from their own.
