KARACHI, Oct 18: Gul Mohammad Dada Memorial Cup to be run over five furlongs will be the main attraction at the Karachi Winter races which will be held on Sunday. The first race will begin at 12-30 p.m.

In a big field of 16 runners who will parade to the starting gate at least six horses come into reckoning on their recent form which should provide the racegoers some exciting finish. Those in contention are: On Song, Lover’s Lady, Innuendo, Ranjha, Micky Mikado II and Ray Of Light.

Mr Faisal Farooq’s three-year-old filly, Innuendo had put up a more impressive run on Monday therefore I fancy her to have the better of Micky Mikado II who will be fresh after a fortnight’s rest.

Order Of The Day will have to put in his best foot forward to have the better of stable mates On Song, Ray Of Light and Ranjha who would be there to pose real threat to our fancies.

In the first race Royal Beauty, Ceaser’s Palace, Fizza, Trust You and Ghori are the form horses. Ceaser’s Palace is cut above class and has been knocking at the doors for quite sometime therefore is fancied to have the better of Fizza and Trust You.

In case anyone of them is not on job Ghori may squeeze in for a place.

Fantastic Fighter, Grey Boy, Star Of The Day and Nawab should fight for supremacy in the second race. Fantastic Fighter is a class act and with required support from the connections should run away with top honours. Star Of The Day and Nawab should follow him home in the same order.

Auzy, Ring Master, Sonia, Sarafan, Royal Lancer and Yaqoob Choice should come in support from their connections as they have fair chance of winning with little luck and earnestness in the third race.

A win for Auzy is overdue and gets my vote over Yaqoob Choice who is knocking at the doors for quite some time and in fact lost closely in his last two starts.

In the fourth race Saligna, Power Plus, Maha Sagar, Miss Oozi, Trillion Winner, Thousand Up and Bholli are the form horses. Trillion Winner’s stable has been playing hide and seek with the prized colt.

Even on last Monday he was installed first favourite in the betting ring but it’s price blew up giving clear indicators that he was not fancied by the stable.

Anyway he looks a certainty today and the stable will find it real hard to play with the colt again. He does not belong to this class which is a ground reality and the track work too is too good to be ignored. Miss Oozi should be a safe place bet.

Love U Lady, Visitor, Roberto Carlos Fan, Wonder Thunder and Edging Ahead are the chance horses in the sixth race.

The first two named can be ignored on their handicap, therefore Wonder Thunder and Edging Ahead should measure their strength over six furlongs which will suit them both. Roberto Carlos Fan who should be the stable fancy may find the two opponents hard to beat.

In the concluding event of the day, Shah Mardan Shah II Pir Pagaro’s three-year-old filly, Lady’s Love should have no difficulty in completing her hat-trick as she is well placed in the weights and the form horse.

Gambling Girl, Charkh Bareen and Al Aashia should fight for less remunerative berths. I would, however, prefer Al Aashia over others as she has the speed and is capable of setting the pace or run close to Lady’s love.
