GHALANAI: A major of the Frontier Corps escaped unhurt in a roadside IED blast at Karapa area of Pandyali tehsil in Mohmand Agency on Thursday.

Assistant political agent, Ekkaghound, Naveed Akbar told Dawn that a vehicle of the Frontier Corps (FC) carrying Major Omair and other security personnel was on way to Peshawar from the agency headquarters Ghalanai and when it reached near Karapa on Peshawar-Ghalanai road an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unknown miscreants went off. He said that luckily all the security personnel escaped unhurt.

Soon after the blast the security forces and Levies personnel reached the site of the incident and launched a search operation in Karapa and adjoining areas. Officials said that at least six suspected persons had been arrested and shifted to the headquarters of Mohmand Rifles for interrogation.

After the incident, the main Ghalanai-Peshawar road was closed to traffic due to which hundreds of vehicles had been stuck on the road. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the blast.

Meanwhile, Mohmand Agency political administration has dismissed services of 16 Khassadrs and suspended a sobedar.

Political agent Waqar Ali Khan told Dawn that the Khassadras were terminated on the charges of misbehaving with passengers at Sharmakhano checkpost.
