LAHORE: The Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) urged the government to involve the handmade carpet industry in building a softer image of the country abroad with a view to enhancing exports and convincing buyers in Europe and USA to seek ‘Made in Pakistan’ tag on hand-knotted carpets again.

In a press statement, PCMEA Chairman Usman Ghani stressed the need for convincing foreign buyers who hesitate in visiting Pakistan due to the negative propaganda.

Hand-knotted carpet industry of Pakistan is free from bonded labour and is promoting women entrepreneurship in the country, he added.

PCMEA former chairman and chief organiser of the Pakistan Handmade Carpet Exhibition 2015 Akhtar Nazir Cooki said that Pakistan is presently participating in only two exhibitions – Shanghai Domotex (China) and HanoverTex (Germany).
