Consensus must for Kalabagh dam: Ibad

DADU, Oct 17: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said the Kalabagh dam will be constructed after a consensus on the issue among the provinces, adding that the federal government is working in this direction.

He said this while talking to journalists on the third day of the Urs of Qalandar Lal Shahbaz on Friday.

The governor said he supported the views expressed by Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar on the Kalabagh dam.

About the law and order situation, Dr Ibad claimed that it had improved during the present government. He said it was the government’s priority to further improve the situation and district administrations had been directed in this regard.

The governor said record development projects had been completed in the province during the 10-month tenure of the government.

He directed the authorities to complete construction work at the shrine of Qalandar Lal Shahbaz in 15 months and use standard material in the construction. He said basic facilities should be provided to devotees.

He said funds for development works at shrines of saints of Sindh would be released soon.

Later, Dr Ibad visited the ongoing construction works at the shrine.

He also visited a medical camp set up by Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists at the main gate of the shrine.

Local Muttahida leader Jamaluddin Birhamani complained to the governor that dens were running in Sehwan and the police were receiving commissions.

The governor directed the RPO, Hyderabad, to take action against police officials concerned and sent him a report in 24 hours.

He also visited stalls at an agro-exhibitions and gave away shields to three departments for their stalls.

COTTAGE INDUSTRY: Federal minister for industries and production Liaquat Ali Jatoi has said that the federal government will provide all possible financial assistance to promote cottage industry.

He was speaking in Sehwan on the second day of Urs of Qalandar Lal Shahbaz on Thursday.

He said the cottage industry was vital for Pakistan and added that the SMEDA would be asked to provide loans to craftsmen who want to boost their production.
