KARACHI, Oct 17: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that solid steps were being taken to restore people’s confidence in police and for improving law and order situation with the collaboration of the public.

He further said that besides providing modern facilities to the police, efforts were on to make the system of accountability work efficiently in the department.

Speaking to the participants of the 33rd Pakistan Navy Staff Course, who met him at the Governor’s House on Friday, he informed that 100 new mobile vans were being provided to different police stations in the province.

He observed that in a big city like Karachi, with a 10,000 km-long road network and having sensitive national and international installations, the police were performing its duties of maintaining law and order despite its limited resources and manpower.

He also lauded the police efforts for uprooting terrorism under the leadership of Sindh Inspector-General Syed Kamal Shah.

The governor said the government was trying to continue the beneficial policies of the past government, along with President Pervez Musharraf’s reforms agenda, in all departments, especially in those concerned with maintaining law and order.

He said life in the city was normal and added that local and foreign investors were showing practical interest in making investments in the city.

Mr Ibad said that in the past, policies changed with change of government, adversely affecting the national economy and development.

He apprised the participants of the performance of various departments, including health, education, agriculture, irrigation, and the local governments system.

Mr Ibad said that farmers’ associations were being constituted for better utilization of water and strengthening of waterways, adding that better results could be achieved by adopting positive perception and approach regarding different issues.—PPI
