KARACHI, Oct 17: All set for pre-bid meeting, scheduled to be held on Saturday, with pre-qualified firms interested in the implementation of Rail-based Mass Transit Project for priority Corridor-I from Sohrab Goth to Tower on built, operate and transfer (BOT) basis.

The city government in collaboration with the provincial government, police and other law enforcement agencies have made elaborated plan and flawless security measures for the foreigners, participating in pre-bid meeting.

The financial and technical consultants NESPAK and RAK of the Rail Based Mass Transit Project would also be present in the meeting. All the participants would also visit the proposed priority Corridor-I.

An official of Karachi Mass Transit Cell (KMTC) informed that participation of foreign firms in BOT project confirms their interest.

He expressed hope that something concrete, towards resolving the mass transportation of the city, would be achieved in this meeting.

He said that the pre-bid meeting would foster interaction between the city government and interested firms to streamline the implementation programme of the project. He said that Rs320 million had been spent on various studies related to the solutions of growing road traffic problems.

It is worth mentioning that seven firms, including Dong Fang Electric Corporation and CMC of China; M. Trans-holding, Infrastructure Development Corporation, MMC Metrial of Malaysia; American Maglev Tech. and the Pak-interglobe Magno JU have qualified for the project. —PPI
