KARACHI: Eminent lawyer and former law minister Abdul Hafeez Pirzada, 80, passed away late on Tuesday in a London hospital, DawnNews reported, quoting family sources.
The veteran Supreme Court lawyer was among the prominent figures who had constituted the 1973 Constitution.
The legal expert had received his LLB degree from Karachi University and later received his LLM degree from Sindh University.
Pirzada began his legal career in the Sindh High Court.
After being elected as a Member of National Assembly for the first time in 1970, he was the country’s first minister for culture and was federal law minister when the Constitution of 1973 was approved.
Later Abdul Hafeez Pirzada became the first federal inter-provincial coordination minister after the enforcement of 1973 constitution.
In 1977, he had presented the budget as finance minister of the PPP government.

The senior advocate had presented before judiciary in a number of famous cases. Recently he was representing Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf in the 2013 general elections rigging case.
Pirzada was also one of the founding members of Pakistan Peoples Party and was considered as a close friend of former prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

He is reportedly survived by two sons, two daughters and a wife.

Just yesterday I was remembering Abdul Hafeez Pirzada. He used to study in St Mary's Sukkur and he was in my younger brother's class in in 1949. May God Bless him and give his family the strength to bear this great loss.
He was not only a loss to the family but also to Pakistan.

RIP. Pirzada sahib will not only remembered for being one of the writers of our constitution, but also for providing legal remedies to dictators and the very people who trashed thevery same constitution , which is unfortunate part of his legacy.

It was sad news indeed. Mr. Abdul Hafiz Pirzada was a great Pakistani and served his country very well. We don't have to agree with everything he has done or said but we must agree that he was a true Pakistani.
May God Rest His Soul in Jannah and give his family the strength to cope with the loss of their loved one.

@Khan- Pakistani You're thinking Sharifuddin Pirzada. This was Abdul Hafeez Pirzada who was Bhuttos law minister and was never counsel for dictators. Sharifuddin Pirzada is still alive.
Also he was not the "author" of the 1973 Constitution, but rather the Chairman if th Constitution Committee which presented the final draft of the 1973 Constituion of Pakistan.

@yasir; Before leveling unfounded allegation, please note that it was not Hafeez Pirzada but Shareefuddin Pirzada, who used to provide advises to military rulers to subvert the constitution. Hafeez Pirzada was a highly respected man, who left politics after the hanging of ZA Bhutto and later practised law till to the end of his life.
