GUJRANWALA, Oct 15: The row between city Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad and Naib Nazim Ehsanullah Chaudhry reached its climax when a no-trust movement was tabled against the latter at a meeting, here on Wednesday.

The city Nazim and Naib Nazim have been at daggers drawn for the last one year over the issue of executive powers. The Naib Nazim had declared all city tehsil council meetings, convened by the city Nazim, unlawful on the grounds that only the Naib Nazim was entitled to convene such meetings.

He had arranged elections for sub-committees of the city tehsil council few days ago, which were declared illegal by the Nazim.

The meeting was presided over by Naib Nazim Ehsanullah Chaudhry. The city Nazim and his supporters were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, treasury group member Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq presented a no-trust movement against the city Naib Nazim, which was seconded by another member, Dr Aziz Dil. The meeting was, however, adjourned till Thursday (today) for counting on no-confidence movement at 10am at the city tehsil office.

Later talking to newsmen, Mr Chaudhry criticized the city Nazim and alleged that he Nazim wanted to replace him at the behest of the PPP.

SYLLABUS: The Gujranwala BISE has directed through a circular to the heads of all educational institutions that students should be informed that physical education subject has been dropped from the annual examinations, 2004.

According to the circular issue on Wednesday, the candidates could change the subject without any fee up to Nov 15, 2003.

A source said the federal education ministry (curriculum wing), Islamabad, could not provide physical education syllabus for 10th class despite the lapse of seven months.

He said the federal ministry had proposed the syllabus for educational institutions which was issued before the start of the new classes, but the curriculum wing could not release it even after seven months.

Therefore, he said the Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen had decided in its meeting on Oct 10 that the physical education would not be included in the annual secondary school certificate examinations, 2004.

ANGUISH: The affected paddy growers and farmers of Wahando have given vent to their discontent for not providing them any relief by the government.

Speaking at a meeting here on Wednesday presided over by Gunaur union council Naib Nazim Ilyas Bhatti, farmers and paddy growers welfare association office bearers Rana Mubarik and Khalid Bhatti said that despite making promises, the government did not extend any help to farmers whose crops were damaged during the monsoon flood.

They said that not only the paddy crops in villages including Gunaur, Chakian, Chabarian, Pul Shah Daula, Sainian and Dholan were washed away in floods but their houses also collapsed. They were facing severe financial crunch and were unable to grow any crop.

Several MPAs and senior government officers had visited the flood affected areas and assured them relief packages, but all their pledges proved merely hollow slogans, they alleged.
