KARACHI Oct 15: A major portion of the Hub River Road, dug up to repair the main waterline from Sher Shah to Baldia Town, badly needs carpeting, but the department concerned seems utterly indifferent to the problem.

Vehicles approaching Baldia Town and Hub are compelled to use the wrong side of the road whose dilapidated condition poses a threat of fatal accidents with Quetta-bound speedy buses passing through it.

The said portion of the road has become a permanent source of trouble to the people of the adjacent area and motorists because of the waterline which, unable to sustain extra supply of water, has burst several times in the past. The department concerned has never repaired the line on a permanent basis and only took cosmetic steps. Hence the frequent bursts. Traffic jams too are a routine at the said spot located in the Site area.

People have expressed resentment over the apathy of the department concerned. An old resident of the area said that, being a suburban area, it had been neglected by the authorities for so many years, as was evident from the pathetic condition all the roads in the area were in. “Development work has been carried out, particularly in downtown areas, but unfortunately no such thing has happened here,” he said criticizing the authorities for ignoring the locality.—PPI
