KARACHI: Teachers continue protest

Published October 16, 2003

KARACHI, Oct 15: Teachers of Government Adamjee Science College, on Wednesday, deplored lack of interest taken by EDO Higher Education and DOE Colleges of city government for the protection of teachers and decided to continue their boycott of classes.

The teachers’ meeting, chaired by Prof Mirza Athar, criticized the attitude of concerned authorities, especially EDO Higher Education and DOE Colleges and termed it “criminal dereliction” towards protection of teachers’ community.

It was decided in the meeting that the college teachers would stage a sit-in in front of DOE Colleges of city government on Oct 16.

The faculty members of Adamjee college had gone on strike for unlimited period in protest against manhandling of teachers and misbehaving with female students by the activists of a students group a few days back.

The meeting decided that teachers would not assume their responsibilities unless the “ghunda elements” were removed from the college premises and Rangers were deployed at the college. —PPI
