KARACHI, Oct 15: Over 250 fresh entrants to the MBBS first year attended the “Day One” introductory class at the Dow Medical College on Wednesday.

The introductory class was attended by jovial and a little confused students with their proud parents celebrating the occasion, which marked a new beginning of their lives and a step ultimately leading towards their professional careers.

The provincial secretary health, Ashiq Hussein Memon, who was the chief guest on the occasion, commended the 222 students admitted on merit, 23 students on self-finance basis, and those on reserved seats. He assured the newcomers that all efforts would be made to ensure provision of quality training to them.

He appreciated the initiative taken by the DMC administration for creating a congenial atmosphere at the college and strengthening communication bridge between the parents and teachers of the college students. He suggested that the event should be made a regular phenomenon.

The newcomers were welcomed by the DMC principal, Prof Tipu Sultan. He advised the students to get involved in academic activities along with healthy and positive extra-curricular programmes with devotion.

Tracing back the history of the college, established in 1945, DMC Students Counsellor Prof Shoaib Tauheed mentioned that there were only three Muslim students enrolled with the college in 1947. He mentioned that hundreds of seasoned medical experts and teachers, among Muslims, had been produced by the DMC during the last five decades. —APP
