Death for killer of brother-in-law

MULTAN, Oct 14: The additional district and sessions judge on Tuesday sentenced a man to death with a fine of Rs0.1 million for killing his brother-in-law.

In case of default of fine payment, the convict will have to undergo six-month hard jail.

Muhammad Aslam of Mahmood Kot married Faizan Mai some 11 years ago. The couple had two children but their marital bond remained strained.

Aslam sold his wife to Imtiaz Pitafi of Gujrat in July 2001. Faizan Mai instituted a case for dissolution of marriage in a family court of Multan. Faizan was extended support by her younger sister Khadija Mai and her husband Ghulam Farid of Khangarh in the legal battle. This offended Aslam against Ghulam Farid.

Aslam stabbed Ghulam Farid on Jan 24, 2002, when the latter was standing outside a court room with Fizan Mai.—APP
