Policeman held for death in custody

SAHIWAL, Oct 14: The Pakpattan police on Tuesday arrested a head constable and declared a sub-inspector and an inspector of Yousafwala Police Station proclaimed offenders on charges of torturing an accused to death in custody.

Sources said the inspector, Muhammad Yousaf, the head constable, Asghar Ali, and the unidentified sub-inspector had arrested the deceased, Muhammad Yousaf, on April 4 this year.

The head constable has been sent to the central jail on judicial remand under sections 364/302 and 341 of the PPC.

DEATH PENALTY DEFERRED: The execution of a prisoner of Sahiwal Central Jail has been deferred for a month under presidential orders.

The condemned prisoner, Muhammad Ashraf, was to be hanged in the central jail on the morning of Oct 13. He had been sentenced to death by the Okara sessions judge for killing his wife Shaista and her brother Bashir Bhatti.
