KARACHI, Oct 14: Unidentified persons shot dead a councillor in Keamari Town on Tuesday.

Police said that Mohammad Ayub, 40, councillor of UC-5, was going along with his private gunman in Mohammadi Colony, also known as Machar Colony, when unknown armed motorcyclists opened fire at them. Mr Ayub suffered a bullet wound and died on the spot while his gunman was wounded in the attack. The assailants fled after the attack.

Later, the victim’s body and injured were taken to the Civil Hospital where gunman identified as Moosa was admitted.

Town Police Officer of Keamari Town, Athar Rasheed Butt, told Dawn that Mohammad Ayub, was wanted in at least 23 to 24 criminal cases pertaining to murder, arms ordinance, ZHO, attempt to murder etc. He said that the victim had enmity with a number of people, including with a rival Bengali group.
