HYDERABAD, Oct 14: The University of Sindh will develop a solar power station at the Jamshoro campus to supply power to its departments and residential areas through it.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held on Tuesday which was presided over by SU vice-chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.

The meeting decided that with the help of the chief energy advisor and UNO representative for industrial development, Dr Lubna Ijaz, a solar power station of 500kw would be established in the first phase in which power would be supplied to the administration block, the VC’s residence, university guest house and some houses.

After the succes of the experience, the power supply will be extended to the departments and the entire residential area of the university.

The Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research will provide technical assistance for developing the power station.

The project director, Feroz Ahmed Shaikh, told the meeting that the SU paid Rs3 to 3.5 million per month on power bills and added that with the development of the solar energy station, the power bill would be reduced.
