KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed to have detained a suspect allegedly involved in firing on the car of former captain of Pakistan cricket team Wasim Akram following an accident in the Karsaz area on Wednesday.

“The police have detained one suspect after a raid on his home in Quaidabad’s Daud Chowrangi locality,” said Karachi-East DIG Munir Ahmed Shaikh.

He added that the held suspect was the driver of the car, which had hit the player’s car. In the initial probe, the suspect told the investigators that after the accident, an exchange of hot words took place, followed by firing on Mr Akram’s vehicle.

The DIG said that the main suspect who fired a shot had been identified but he refused to disclose his name to the media.
