ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said the country is fighting the menace of terrorism, however, due to to the steps taken by the government and military the country was set on the path to improvement.

Holding a press conference in the federal capital on Monday, the minister said the country is facing numerous problems such as security issues, insurgency and economic struggles. However, he underscored that “we should focus on bigger issues as opposed to inquiries”.

CDA operation against illegal katchi abadis

Responding to a question, Nisar said he will hold a meeting to direct Capital Development Authority (CDA) to launch an inquiry against corrupt employees who allowed katchi abadis to come into existence in the first place.

“This is not an ethnic issue; rather it is a huge security issue,” he emphasised, adding that it was important for the overall law and order situation of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

He said, however, it is important to handle it in a way that does not inconvenience the residents of the katchi abadis.

Talking about the security of the twin cities, the minister said that an eight-year-old was kidnapped some days earlier, who was fortunately recovered with assistance from intelligence agencies.

He also said that three other individuals who were intending to target a key government official were apprehended before Eid.

Recent and ongoing progress of Nadra

The minister was addressing the inaugural ceremony of online renewal of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC). He said that better services will be introduced by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) in the next six months.

He highlighted that there is no longer a need to come to Nadra for CNIC renewal, as this service is now being provided online.

He also said that Nadra services have already improved a lot, and thousands of fake identity cards have been blocked. Nisar said he aims to make Nadra a transparent and corruption-free organisation.
