ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alerts to the government agencies concerned and provincial disaster management authorities (PDMAs) for a possible flood in River Indus and heavy rains in different parts of the country.

According to a statement issued on Sunday, the NDMA has provided rescue boats to the PDMAs of Sindh and Punjab. At the request of the PDMAs and other stakeholders, SMS alerts on heavy rain have been issued through the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

In Chitral, 10 mobile outlets of Utility Stores have been set up to distribute essential commodities among flood-affected people, says the statement.

The Frontier Works Organisation has brought heavy machinery to the area to repair roads damaged by the floodwaters.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, of the 2,800 tents provided to the district administrations by the NDMA, 243 have been distributed among the flood-hit. The tents have been transported to different districts and 300 more are being sent to GB.

Moreover, 1,000 food packets are being made available for distribution among people through the Utility Stores outlets with the assistance of the PDMA of Gilgit Baltistan.
