KARACHI, Oct 11: Various parts of the city continued to suffer acute water shortage on Saturday on the eve of Shab-i-Bara’at.

The hard-hit areas included Baghdadi’s D. D. Chaudhry Road, Yousuf Haroon (West) Road Nos 1 & 2, Ramswami, Ranchorre Lane, Hoti Market, Shoe market, Pakistan Chowk, Haquani Chowk, Kharadar, Mithadar, various sectors of Surjani, Baldia, Orangi, North Karachi’s sectors A, B, 5B, 5C-1, 5C-2, 5C-3, 5E, 7D-2, 7D-3, 11C-1, 11C-2; parts of Shershah, Mianwalli Colony, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony, Mehmoodabad and Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s blocks 4-A and 10.

The other localities which went dry on Saturday under the weekly water-holiday system included PECHS, KDA Scheme-1, Sharfabad, Karachi Television Centre, KACH Society, Civic Centre and its adjoining localities, Mehmoodabad No 5, Liaquatabad, Gharibabad, Furqanabad, Bandhani Colony and parts of Nazimabad, Liaquat National Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital.

Residents of the affected localities said that in the absence of piped water they had no choice but to either buy private tankers at exorbitant rates or consume sub-soil unhygienic water.

Complaints of water shortage have also been received from different sectors of Baldia and Orangi townships. Residents of the affected sectors of Orangi and Baldia townships said that since they had received short supply of water during their last turn, a vast area remained in the grip of water crisis on the eve of Shab-i-Bara’at.
