ISLAMABAD, Oct 11: The Israeli deal to sell Falcon Radar System to India with the US consent soon after consecutive Washington visits of Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali is evidence of the failure of these visits.

This was stated by Central Information Secretary of the Pakistan Muslim League-N Siddqul Farooq in a statement here on Saturday.

Mr Farooq said before leaving for Washington, the prime minister had declared that he would discuss Pakistan’s concern with President Bush over the military imbalance created by India’s piling up of modern weapons and war material. However, he could not tell the nation on his return whether the US had promised to check Indian arms build-up or help Pakistan meet its defence needs.

He said the importance that the Americans gave to Gen Musharraf or Prime Minister Jamali had now been exposed. He recalled that the US had earlier stopped Israel from supplying the radar system to India, but give a go ahead signal to Tel Aviv immediately after Prime Minister Jamali’s visit. “Washington had thus not only showed its disdain for the two gentlemen, but also its indifference to Pakistan’s vital interests,” he added.

The PML-N spokesman said actually both Gen Musharraf and the prime minister had gone to the US to pursue their personal interests. Gen Musharraf, therefore, returned with admiration for waging the American war against terrorism and Mr Jamali returned happy with a pat on his back, he added.
