RAWALPINDI, Oct 9: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has convened a meeting of all the inspectors-general of police and directors-general of intelligence agencies in Islamabad on Saturday.

Official sources told Dawn that the prime minister called the meeting after he returned home from a visit to the United States.

The assassination of Millat-i-Islamia Pakistan chief Maulana Azam Tariq, MNA, and progress in the investigation into firing on a train engine in Balochistan and killing of seven Suparco employees in Karachi would be discussed at the meeting, the source said.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad police have been directed to step up security around several senior parliamentarians, the source said.

Strict security measures have been taken in Islamabad in the light of reports that MIP activists would stage protests on Friday.

The Frontier Constabulary, Reserves from the Punjab Police Constabulary and contingents of Rawalpindi police have been called in to assist the capital police.

The FC personnel have been deployed on the exit and entry points of Islamabad, while police patrolling has been increased.
