Search of pillion-riders ordered

LAHORE, Oct 9: Chief minister Pervaiz Elahi has directed police to frisk pillion-riders thoroughly as a security measure.

Chairing a meeting here on Thursday, he said though there was no ban on pillion-riding in the province “it is imperative for the police to thoroughly check people riding pillion on motorcycles”.

Punjab Law Minister Raja Muhammad Basharat, Chief Secretary Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa, Inspector-General Police Masood Ahmad Shah and other high officials attended the meeting.

Directing district police officers (DPOs) to personally inspect security arrangements in their respective jurisdiction, he said special attention should be paid to religious and other sensitive places.

He sought enforcement of section-144, that prohibits assembly of four or above people at a public place, throughout the province and action against the people involved in illegal activities.

The chief minister also sought implementation of the police patrolling plan and display of illegal weapons.

The officials concerned were also asked to activate district peace committees by convening Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen meetings on quarterly basis.

INVESTMENT: Adviser to the chief minister on agriculture Jehangir Tareen and former Privatization Commission chairman Altaf Saleem called on the Punjab chief executive here on Thursday.

They discussed with him prospects of increasing investment under the new industrial policy in the province.

CONDOLENCE: The chief minister visited the house of journalist Amjad Warraich to condole the death of his father Muhammad Nawaz Warraich.

The CM offered fateha for the departed soul and expressed his heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family.
