HYDERABAD, Oct 9: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has stressed the need for utilizing the Rs10.5 billion Hyderabad development package judiciously.

Speaking at a news conference at the circuit house here on Thursday, he thanked the president and the prime minister for announcing the package.

The governor said his visit to the district was aimed at taking decisions about the project implementation.

He said District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman had already identified priorities and MNAs and MPAs from the district would be involved in identifying development schemes as well as overseeing the work.

He said a committee, headed by adviser on home affairs Aftab Shaikh, had been constituted which would finalize issues regarding the project in consultation with elected representatives.

Dr Ibad said a project director and consultant would be appointed and the work would be given to Frontier Works Organization which had the necessary wherewithal.

He said the standard and quality of development schemes should be maintained.

He said Sindh and federal governments would continue to extend necessary assistance to provide maximum facilities to the people of the district.

The governor said the issue of the Hyderabad Airport which was lying abandoned had been taken up and, he added, in due course of time, cargo and domestic flights from the district would be started.

He said establishment of an industrial and export zones would also be taken up with the Centre.

He said problems of Hyderabad had increased over the years due to indifferent attitude of previous governments.

Dr Ibad said it was the present government that was paying attention to restoring the infrastructure and glory of thecity.

Answering a question, he said it would take four to five years to implement schemes under the development project.

However, he said routine matters like repairs of roads, sanitation and the sewerage system should not be attached with the development package.

When asked about the slow pace of investigation in the murder case of journalist Amir Bakhsh Brohi in Shikarpur, Mr Shaikh said positive results were expected in the next two to three days.

Mr Rafiquzzaman, responding to a question, said six MNAs and 12 MPAs would be involved in implementation of the development package.

About a hunger strike unto death being observed by students demanding refund of computer fee, Sindh Minister Dr Irfan Gul Magsi said a committee had been constituted to resolve the issue.

The district Nazim said he had met the protesting students and assured them that the computer fee would be refunded.

The governor was also informed about the plight of a man, Manoo Bheel, whose family members were being held hostage by a feudal lord.

Dr Ibad directed the Regional Police Officer to ensure justice to Mr Bheel without delay.

Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakil Qazi and other district officers were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, the governor visited the district’s three talukas and met different delegations.

EXAMS: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh, notified on Wednesday that the first semester examinations of PGD in Public Administration would commence from Oct 13.

The last date for submitting examination forms was fixed as Oct 10.
