MULTAN: Two nephews of PML-N MNA Abdul Ghaffar Dogar allegedly ransacked the office of a sub-divisional officer (SDO) of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) and manhandled its staff on Monday.

However, the family members of the MNA, who is in Saudi Arabia for Umrah these days, denied the allegations, saying the SDO had misbehaved with the consumers as well the MNA’s nephews.

Mumtazabad EXEN Ghulam Husain Gujjar told Dawn a consumer went to the office of SDO Salman Wains and asked him to talk to Abid Dogar, the nephew of Mr Dogar, while dialing his number. The call got disconnected and the consumer left the office; however, after sometime he returned and again asked the SDO to talk to Abid Dogar.

During the call, the EXEN alleged, Abid Dogar started abusing the SDO and issued him threats of violence. He said Abid Dogar and his brother Amir Dogar, along their 25 supporters, came to the office and ransacked it while forcing the SDO to take shelter in the bathroom.

The EXEN said an FIR had been lodged with Mumtazabad police against both the brothers.

Abdul Jabbar Dogar, a family member of the MNA, said people contacted them often for resolving their issues as the Mepco authorities were least interested in resolving their problems without a reference.

He said Abid Dogar called the SDO to resolve the issue of a consumer who had got an inflated electricity bill, however, instead of resolving the issue, the SDO misbehaved with Abid on phone. He said to avoid any tension Amir, instead of Abid, went to the office of the SDO where only an exchange of harsh words took place.
