LAHORE, Oct 8: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of lawyers announced on Wednesday that it would hold a long march from Lahore to Islamabad against the LFO on Oct 13 with the support of bar associations from all over the country.

Supreme Court Bar Association president Hamid Khan told newsmen that a procession of lawyers would leave Lahore on Monday morning by cars. It would be joined by the district bar bodies of Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kharian, Jhelum and Gujjar Khan on its way to Islamabad, he added.

Lawyers would hold a convention in the Supreme Court building the following day, he continued.

He said the march was the first of a series of long marches to Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta. However, the timing of these marches was yet to be decided, he added.

Pakistan Bar Council’s executive committee chairman Kazim Khan made it clear that during the long march the lawyers would remain peaceful and would not create any law and order situation. If the establishment tried to hinder this peaceful move and did not allow lawyers to enter the Supreme Court building in Islamabad, they would hold a convention on the road, Mr Khan warned.

Punjab Bar Council former vice-chairman Ramzan Chaudhry offered support to the move. He said the lawyers would make every possible effort to make their anti-LFO campaign a success.

Lahore High Court Bar Association president Hafiz Abdul Rehman Ansari also vowed to participate in the long march, saying the LFO was going to meet its fate soon as a result of the untiring struggle of the legal fraternity against it.

Office-bearers of different bar associations were also present on the occasion.
