KARACHI: The provincial health authorities said another heatstroke patient died in the city on Friday.

The death toll caused by the recent heatwave has now reached 1,272 in the city since June 20 when the first such patients arrived at hospitals.

Health Director General Hasan Murad Shah said the elderly patient, who was admitted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre a few days back, died on Friday.

“Now the total deaths caused by heatstroke in Karachi are 1,272,” said Mr Shah.

Officials in the provincial government said the overall death toll in the province reached 1,374 with the death of 102 more people in other districts.

The government has already lifted the state of ‘heatwave emergency’ from across the province.
