JACOBABAD, Oct 8: Farming experts on Tuesday urged growers in Sindh to adopt modern technologies to maximize the crop production in the province.

They were speaking at a seminar on ‘Zero-tillage agriculture technology’ in the Ghulam Sabir Khoso village. The seminar was organised by the Agriculture Farmers Organisation.

The seminar, attended by a large number of growers from Sindh and Balochistan, was presided over by Begum Saeeda Soomro, mother of Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro.

Coordinator of Smith-Mexico, Dr Grick Maxier said that the zero-tillage technology was introduced in Mexico in 1960 and was soon adopted by growers in Argentina, the United States and Canada, greatly increasing their agriculture output.

He said that in 1992, the technology was introduced in Punjab but growers in Sindh and Balochistan did not evince any interest in this regard.

Chairperson of the agriculture Farmers Association Begum Saeeda Soomro also stressed the need for developing agriculture sector along modern line, saying it was essential to achieve better yields.

Pakistan Agriculture Research Council’s Basheer Ahmed Kalwar, Jacobabad DCO Juman Khan Jamro, EDO (revenue) Basheer Ahmed and director, agriculture, Hafeez Mujeebur Rehman, also spoke on the occasion.

ACCIDENT: One person was killed and three others were injured in a collision between a car (A-1447) and a wagon (R- 1791) on the Indus Highway near Kashmor.

The deceased was identified as Atta Mohammad Domki (car driver). Three passengers in the wagon — Arbab Ali Kori, Bakhtawar Mazari and Bahadur Mazari — were seriously injured.
