DERA GHAZI KHAN: Pre-emptive firing by outlaws on Thursday kept the law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) away from their hideouts situated at the island of the Indus in Shah Saddar Din police precincts.

A Dera Ghazi Khan police spokesperson told Dawn that as many as 15 heavily armed outlaws hailing from different areas were assembled on the Indus’ island.

He claimed that suspects had rocket launchers.

He said: “Muzaffargarh police are alert on eastern bank of the river while Dera Ghazi Khan police have cordoned off the western bank to initiate operation.” He said police would soon obtain success in its operation against outlaws.

Meanwhile, local sources alleged that a gang led by proclaimed offender Aziza Lumbher had occupied the “adhwana” (island) in the Indus.

CLARIFICATION: Apropos a news item “Three terrorists arrested”, the arrested explosive expert Saiful Islam of Rajanpur district is a former student of King Edward Medical College and not Karachi University.
