PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has asked the divisional administration of Malakand to conduct a complete survey of the loss of lives and property that occurred due to flash floods in Upper Dir district on Thursday evening.

Seeking a report of the losses, Mr Khattak announced that the provincial government would undertake every possible relief and rehabilitation measures for those affected by the natural calamity. He said that the roads and other infrastructure of basic amenities would also be fully restored.

He also formed a three-member committee to ascertain the extent of damage and asked it to present its recommendations to compensate the human losses and repair or reconstruct the affected infrastructure. The committee comprised MPA Mohammad Ali Shah, deputy commissioner Dir and the director general of Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

The chief minister again contacted the administrations of Malakand and Dir on Saturday and inquired about the damage as well as relief and rehabilitation activities being carried out in the flood-hit areas.

He directed the district authorities to take all-out efforts for restoring the suspended communication link of the affected areas with rest of the country. He ordered to temporarily restore the damaged road from Biyar to Patrak on priority and sought suggestions for early reconstruction of the road.

The chief minister also asked the provincial relief authorities to utilise all available resources for the relief and rehabilitation of the affected people and provide them food and shelter until their permanent rehabilitation.

He again expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the tragic incident.
