LARKANA, Oct 7: The principal of Chandka Medical College, Larkana, on Tuesday called for initiating an inquiry into the bad quality of repair work in the college’s premises.
Talking to this correspondent, Prof Noor Ahmed Channa confirmed that the work had been stopped over three months ago when a team headed by himself (the college’s principal), was apprised about the quality of the renovation work.
Complaining about the inferior quality of the flooring of the dining hall and corridor in hostel No3 and the white-wash of rooms, the college’s principal said that the renovation work in hostel No2 had been stopped after the contractor fled over three month ago.
Prof Channa said that the matter was brought to the notice of quarters concerned, adding that the overall work in hostel No5 was of poor quality.
He said the work on the road network was also of sub-standard quality.
It was learnt that Rs13.5 million were sanctioned following reports compiled by the district government’s planning section, recommending undertaking urgent repair work in the college.
The renovation work, being carried out by the building department, had been criticized by the staff as well as students, Wahid Bakhsh Mahar, additional secretary (administration) said.
The additional secretary had inspected the renovation work on Sept 13. He was accompanied by additional secretary (procurement), principal of the college, hostel provost, teaching staff and representatives of students.
The district Nazim, Khursheed Junejo, had also visited the college and found the repair work to be of poor quality.
The district nazim had deputed Ghulam Mustafa Soomro, district officer, planning, to prepare a report in this regard.
It was learnt on Tuesday here that Mr Soomro was also dissatisfied with the quality of work.
The principal said that he would soon apprise the secretary, health, in this regard, adding that he had already served notices on teachers, who had certified the contractor’s faulty work.
The Paramedics Association also protested over the poor quality of work, saying that a huge amount had been wasted on such a poor quality of work.
TEACHERS: Teachers on Tuesday called for restructuring pay-scales between BPS-1 and BPS-16 to offset the effects of the soaring inflation.
Speaking at the general body meeting of the Pakistan Teachers United Front, Mohammed Rafique Jarwar, president of the Primary Teachers Association (Sindh), highlighted the problems of the teachers’ community, saying that despite the government’s admission regarding 300 per cent rise in prices of items of daily use, it was reluctant to increase salaries of teachers.
